Nuker

(from the Mongolian “nokhor,” “friend” or “comrade”), a follower of a tribal notable during the period of the emergence of feudalism in Mongolia. The nukers were primarily warriors; in peacetime they served as guards, household servitors, and retainers. In return for their service, the nukers originally received food, clothing, shelter, and arms; later, they were given part of the war booty and were rewarded with grants of land and serfs (benefices), eventually becoming vassals of large-scale feudal lords. Between the 14th and 20th centuries, the term “nuker” came to mean “servant” among the peoples of Southwest and Central Asia.
