Oberkassel
Oberkassel
a settlement 4 km southeast of Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany, where two almost complete male and female Cro-Magnon skeletons from the end of the Upper Paleolithic were found in 1914. In contrast to more ancient representatives of Cro-Magnon man, the inhabitants of Oberkassel were rather short—the man was 160 cm tall, and the woman 155 cm. The difference in size between the skeletons of the man and the woman was so great that it gave rise to the mistaken conclusion that the man and woman belonged to different Upper Paleolithic races.
