Kuang Fu Hui

(Union for the Restoration of the Sovereignty of China), a revolutionary organization in China from 1904 to 1912. It represented the landlord-bourgeois and culturally enlightened circles of Chekiang Province. Its leaders were Ts’ai Yüan-p’ei, T’ao Ch’eng-chang, Ch’iu Chin, and Hsü Hsi-lin. Kuang Fu Hui cooperated with the revolutionary party T’ung Meng Hui in the struggle against the Manchu Ch’ing dynasty. (From 1905 to 1910 many members of Kuang Fu Hui were concurrently members of T’ung Meng Hui.) It based itself chiefly on the traditional secret societies of Chekiang Province. In 1907 and 1908 it carried out two unsuccessful revolts in the city of Anching. After the 1911 Wuchang Uprising the Kuang Fu Hui played a notable role in the overthrow of Ch’ing rule in the maritime provinces of eastern China. It was disbanded in the summer of 1912.
