It is formed from a MUTANT cell in which CELL DIVISION is aberrant, such that the SEPTUM forms towards one end of the cell, generating a small cell (‘minicell’) which has no chromosomal DNA. Minicells do not grow after they have formed, but they can be used to provide experimental TRANSCRIPTION and TRANSLATION systems if infected with DNA. |
