Narym
Narym
a mountain range in the Southern Altai, in Vostoch-nyi Kazakhstan Oblast, Kazakh SSR. The range extends for 120 km and rises in its eastern part to a maximum elevation of 2,533 m. It is composed of Paleozoic sandstones, conglomerates, schists, and tuffs, with intrusions of granites.
Birch forests grow on the steep northern slopes up to elevations of 1,300 m; higher up, there are larch forests. Spruce, fir, and cedar forests are found in the valleys. Fescue-grass and feather-grass steppes, meadow steppes, and shrubs cover the southern slopes. Above elevations of 1,800 m, subalpine open woodland and alpine meadows predominate.
