Naryn Basin

 

an intermontane depression in the Inner Tien-Shan, Kirghiz SSR, along the middle course of the Naryn River at elevations from 1,300 to 3,000 m. The basin is approximately 300 km long and has widths to 50 km. There are badlands along the right bank of the Naryn River. The climate is characteristically continental, with cold, almost snowless winters and relatively cool summers. The average July temperature is from 15° to 17°C, and the average January temperature from —15°to —18°C. The annual precipitation is 200–300 mm. There are light brown soils. The vegetation consists of saltwort-wormwood and mountain-steppe grasses. The city of Naryn is located in the basin.
