Kuebler-Ross, Elisabeth

(1926– ) psychiatrist; born in Zurich, Switzerland. She studied at the University of Zurich (M.D. 1957) and moved to the United States shortly thereafter. She taught psychiatry at the Universities of Colorado and Chicago and began her pioneering research into the experience of dying in 1965. Her publications include On Death and Dying (1969) and Death: The Final Stage (1974) and she is credited with having brought Americans to a new level of consciousness about this stage of life.
