Kugitangtau

a mountain range in the southwestern part of the Pamiro-Alai mountain system, in the Uzbek and Turkmen SSR’s. The range is the southern extension of the Baisuntau Range, stretching from the Amudar’ia Valley to the canyon of the Sherabad River, near the village of Derbent. The range is about 100 km long and attains an elevation of 3,139 m. It is composed of sedimentary rock, including limestones and gypsum-bearing series, and has well-developed karst formations. In the foothills is an ephemer semidesert, which gives way to mountain subtropical steppes with xerophytic brush and to sparse pistache and juniper woodlands growing in a mountain steppe.
