Market Is Off

Market Is Off

Informal; a phrase indicating that a market index is trading below the previous day's closing price. Depending on the particular type of investment one has made, this may be a good or bad situation. Short-selling or trading in bonds are only two of many ways to profit on days when the market is off. However, an off-day for a market usually indicates a loss of money for someone who owns stocks, exchange-traded funds, or many other securities.
