Oleg Gazenko


Gazenko, Oleg Georgievich

 

Born Dec. 12, 1918, in the village of Nikolaevka, Stavropol’ Krai. Soviet physiologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1953.

Gazenko graduated from the Second Moscow Medical Institute (1941). Since 1969 he has been director of the Institute of Medical-Biological Problems at the Ministry of Public Health of the USSR. Since 1956 he has taken part in the organization of work on space biology and medicine that helped make manned space flights and their equipping possible. His principal works deal with space physiology, particularly in the influence of weightlessness on the organism. He was awarded the Order of Lenin and three other orders, as well as various medals.
