Olekma-Chara Plateau

 

a plateau in the Yakut ASSR and Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR, situated between the Olekma and Chara rivers of the Lena River Basin. Located at an elevation of 500–600 m, it rises to 1,400 m in the south. Its northern section is composed of Lower Paleozoic limestones, and its southern section of Precambrian schists with intrusions of granites. The plateau is dissected by a dense network of deep valleys, and its peaks are flat. There are larch forests on the slopes; the peaks are covered with groves of dwarf stone pine and with mountain tundra vegetation.
