Kulmbach, Hans von

Kulmbach, Hans von

(häns fən ko͝olm`bäkh), c.1480–1522, German painter and graphic artist. His real name was Hans Süss. In general his work reveals the influence of Dürer, but he had little of the master's power. Von Kulmbach worked chiefly in Nuremberg, although he probably spent several years in Cracow as court painter. His masterpiece is the Tucher altarpiece for the Church of St. Sebald in Nuremberg. He also executed portraits and designs for painted glass.
