Kuloi

 

a river in Arkhangelsk Oblast, RSFSR. Length, 235 km (350 km including its source, the Sotka River); basin area, 19,000 sq km.

The Kuloi flows into Mezen’ Bay (on the White Sea). The river is fed primarily by snow. Its average annual water dis-charge in its upper reaches is 34 cu m per sec. The Kuloi freezes over in October and thaws out in May. It is navigable. In its upper course it is connected with the Pinega River by the Kuloi Canal.

an urban-type settlement in Vel’sk Raion, Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR. Kuloi is a railroad station on the Konosha-Kotlas line. The settlement has railroad transport enterprises.


Kuloi

 

(Kula), a river located in Vologda and Arkhangelsk oblasts, RSFSR; a right tributary of the Vaga River (in the Severnaia Dvina basin). Length, 206 km; basin area, 3,300 sq km.

The Kuloi begins at Lake Sonduzhskoe and flows basically northward, forming large loops. It is fed by several sources, but predominantly by snow. Its average discharge at a distance of 53 km from its mouth is 8.74 cu m per sec. The Kuloi freezes over in October or November (sometimes December) and thaws out in April or early May. Logs are floated on the river.
