Kungurian Stage

(named after the city of Kungur in the Urals), the uppermost stage of the lower series of the Permian system. It was identified by the Russian geologist A. A. Shtukenberg in 1890. It is represented by dolomitized limestones, marls, sandstones, argillites, anhydrites, gypsum, and rock salt. The marine fauna (brachiopods, ammonoids, foraminifera) resembles the fauna of the Artinskii stage. It is common throughout the Middle Urals.
