Lublin Upland

an upland in southeastern Poland, between the Vistula and Bug rivers. The surface is a plain with rolling hills dissected by deep river valleys (Wieprz and Tanew) and ravines. For the most part it lies at an elevation of 200-300 m, reaching 390 m on the Roztocze Ridge in the south. The upland is composed mainly of limestones and marls covered by loess. Much of the area is plowed up, and wheat, sugar beets, hops, and tobacco are the chief crops. Deciduous and beech and pine forests are found mainly on the Roztocze Ridge. The principal cities are Lublin and Chelm.
