Lucanian Apennines
a mountain range in Italy, in the Southern Apennines. It is bounded on the north by the Ofanto River valley and on the south by the graben of the Crati River. Length, approximately 150 km; elevation, to 2,271 m (Serra Dolcedorme). In the west are steep-walled limestone massifs and karst; in the east there are rugged flysch mountains of medium elevation. There are Mediterranean forests and shrubs to elevations of 400-500 m; higher up are oak, chestnut, and pine forests.
