Kurbanova, Okuma Abbas Kyzy
Born May 29 (June 11), 1913, in Baku. Soviet Azerbaijani actress; People’s Artist of the USSR (1965).
Kurbanova joined the company of the M. Azizbekov Azerbaijani Theater (Baku) in 1938. She brings great artistic skill to dramatic, genre, and comedy roles. Her roles have included Shirin in Farkhad and Shirin by Samed Vurgun, Reikhan in Dzhavanshir by Mekhti Gusein, Benevshe in The Country Bumpkin by Ibragimov, and Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra by Shakespeare (M. F. Akhundov State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR, 1965). Kurbanova was a deputy at the seventh and eighth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR. She was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
