Most of the island is made up of limestone plateaus (elevations to 358 m) whose ledges drop sharply to the sea. There is karst. The climate is Mediterranean, with 500-600 mm of precipitation per year. The natural vegetation consists of maquis and garigue and groves of oak and pine. Grapes, olives, citrus fruits, and almonds are grown. There is sheep raising and fishing. Menorca is popular with tourists. The chief port is Mahón. |
