Kurganinsk

 

(prior to 1961, the stanitsa [large cossack village] of Kurgannaia), a city and the center of the Kurganinsk Raion, Krasnodar Krai, RSFSR. It is situated on the right bank of the Laba River (Kuban’ tributary), 167 km east of Krasnodar. It has a railroad station (Kurgannaia) on the Armavir-Tuapse line; an 84-km branch line runs from Kurganinsk to Shedok. Population, 35,000 (1970). The city’s food industry is represented by a sugar refinery, a cannery, a dairy, a poultry farm, and a food-processing combine. Hemp and asphalt concrete are also produced.
