Luchazi

(also Valuchazi, Mulochazi, Balojash, Luxage, Makangala), a people living in Angola (in the Cuando-Lungue-Bungo interfluvial area) and Zambia (on the middle course of the Kabompo River). The Luchazi, together with the related Bambundu and Baluimbi (the general Portuguese name is Vanganguela), number more than 500,000 in Angola and approximately 50,000 in Zambia (1967, estimate). The Luchazi language belongs to the western group of Bantu languages. The Luchazi adhere to the traditional tribal beliefs of their ancestors. Their chief occupation is farming (millet and corn), and hunting and fishing are well developed.
