Lucic, Ivan

 

(also Lufrc; Latin, Lucius; Italian, Lucio). Born 1604, in Trogir; died Jan. 11, 1679, in Rome. Yugoslav historian.

Lucćc was educated in Rome and Padua and was a doctor of law. He lived in Trogir from 1625 to 1654 and in Rome after 1654. He was the first in Yugoslav historiography to use the methods of scientific criticism of sources. Using documents found in Croatian and Dalmatian archives, and the works of Croatian, Byzantine, Italian, and Hungarian authors, Lucic wrote the book On the Kingdom of Croatia and Dalmatia (1666). He was also the author of Historical Notes on Trogir (1673).
