conceptional age

The estimated gestational age as referenced from the actual time of conception. It is usually considered to be at least 14 days after the first day of the last menstrual period. Synonym: ovulation age

age of consent

The age at which a minor may legally engage in voluntary sexual intercourse or no longer requires parental consent for marriage. It varies among states but is usually between ages 13 and 18.

corrected age

The age of a premature baby revised so that it accurately reflects his or her premature delivery. It can be calculated in one of two ways. First, a baby's weeks of prematurity can be subtracted from his or her age since birth. Using this system a child who was four weeks premature, who is now four weeks and one day old would have a corrected age of one day. Alternatively, a child who was born at a gestational age of 27 weeks who is now three weeks old would have a corrected (gestational) age of 30 weeks.

developmental age

An index of maturation expressed in months or years, which represents a value obtained by comparing performance with scaled norms for a particular age group. See: age, achievement

emotional age

Judgment of age with respect to the stage of emotional development.

functional age

Age defined in terms of physical or functional capacity; frequently applied to older adults.

gestational age

The age of an embryo or fetus as timed from the date of onset of the last menstrual period. Gestational age is specified numerically by the following convention: 360/7 indicates an age of 36 weeks, 0 days. 295/7 indicates an age of 29 weeks, 5 days. The first two numbers are the number of weeks of gestation. The number designated as X/7 is the number of days since the completion of the last full week. Synonym: menstrual age

Elapsed time expressed in years from menarche.
