menstrual endometrium

A term referring to the cyclical changes that occur in the endometrium at the end of the secretory phase:
• Glands with secretory exhaustion—dilated and frayed;
• Apoptotic bodies in glands infiltrated with PMNs;
• Crumbling of stroma which forms balls surrounded by pre-decidual cells;
• Stromal fibrin and fibrin threads;
• Stratum basalis is normal.
