Nodular Dermatitis

a viral disease of bovine cattle that is manifested by fever and inflammation of the skin, with the formation of characteristic nodules. Nodular dermatitis has a chronic, enzootic progression with a mortality rate of up to 95 percent.

The disease was first established in 1929 in Northern Rhodesia and on the island of Madagascar. It occurs throughout southern and eastern Africa, but no cases have been recorded in the USSR. No specific preventive measures against nodular dermatitis have been developed. Affected farms are quarantined, and the export of meat and raw products of animal origin is permitted only after treatment against the disease.
