Lucien Cayeux


Cayeux, Lucien

 

Born Mar. 26, 1864, in Semousies; died Nov. 1, 1944, in Mauves-sur-Loire. French geologist and litholo-gist. Member of the French Academy of Sciences (1928).

Cayeux became a professor at the École des Mines in Paris in 1907 and at the Collège de France in 1912. His principal works were devoted to studying the material composition and origin of sedimentary rocks (calcareous, siliceous, iron-ore, and phosphate rocks). Cayeux gave a monographic description of detrital and carbonate rocks of Cretaceous age in France.
