Kutateladze, Samson Semenovich

 

Born July 18 (31), 1914, in Petrograd. Soviet physicist. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Member of the CPSU from 1943.

Kutateladze graduated from the Leningrad Heat Engineering Technicum in 1932 and from the Leningrad Correspondence Industrial Institute in 1950. From 1932 to 1958 he worked at the Central Boiler and Turbine Institute; he served in the Soviet Army from 1941 to 1945. In 1958 he began working at the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He was one of the founders of the Institute of the Physics of Heat, becoming its director in 1964.

Kutateladze’s major works are devoted to the development of the theory of heat exchange, the theory of the turbulent boundary layer, and the hydrodynamics of gas-liquid systems. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
