Ludolphian Number

Ludolphian Number

(also Ludolfs number), the approximate value of π (ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter) to 32 decimal places worked out by the Dutch mathematician Ludolph Van Ceulen (1540-1610) and published after his death in 1615. The number π itself is sometimes called, without any basis, the Ludolphian number.
