Kuyunjik
an archaeological site on the left bank of the Tigris River, opposite Mosul (Iraq), the ruins of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. Excavations were conducted from the middle of the 19th century to the 1930’s (A. H. Layard, R. Campbell Thompson, and others). Discoveries include the remains of palaces and temples and the library of King Ashurbanipal.
