Kvareli

 

a city (a settlement until 1964), the administrative center of Kvareli Raion, Georgian SSR. The city is located in the valley of the Alazani River, a tributary of the Kura River, 19 km north of the Mukuzani railroad station on the Tbilisi-Telavi branch line. Population, 9,500 (1970). The city has a winery, a cognac distillery, an essential oils factory, and a brickyard, as well as vineyard sovkhozes. The I. G. Chavchavadze Museum, the K. A. Mardzhanishvili House-Museum, and a people’s amateur theater are located in Kvareli.
