Kvelteli, Tevdore

Kvelteli, Tevdore

Died in 1609. Hero in the Georgian struggle against the Turkish invasion of 1609; priest in the village of Kvelta.

The Turks, who had occupied the village of Kvelta, forced Kvelteli by torture to point out the way to Tsar Luarsab II (1606–23). He led them in another direction, and when the deception was exposed, the Turks killed him. His memory has been preserved in folk legends.
