Objectival Conjugation

the expression within the morphological form of a verb of the categories of nominal or pronominal object. This role is performed by affixes of the objectival order, which are used to indicate person, number, and sometimes gender or class. In the Avar phrase ditsa chu bachana, “I brought the horse,” given the absence of a subjectival affix, the verbal prefix b- indicates the noun class of the direct object. When the combination of objectival affix with subjectival affix is often encountered in a verb, the conjugation becomes subjectival-objectival. Purely objectival conjugation is encountered chiefly in languages of the ergative type.
