Bardina, Ol’ga Vasil’evna

Born Dec. 23, 1932, in the city of Karshi, Uzbek SSR. Soviet Russian lyric-dramatic soprano. People’s Artist of the USSR (1978). Member of the CPSU since 1968.

Bardina graduated from the history department of the University of Tashkent in 1954 and from the Tashkent Conservatory, where she was a student in the singing class of E. V. Radomskaia, in 1959. She became a soloist with the opera theaters in Tashkent and Ufa in 1959 and with the Saratov Theater of Opera and Ballet in 1962.

Bardina’s roles have included Natasha in Dargomyzhskii’s The Mermaid, Iaroslavna in Borodin’s Prince Igor, and Tat’iana, Liza, and Nastas’ia in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, The Queen of Spades, and The Sorceress, respectively. Her repertoire also includes the title roles in Verdi’s Aida, Puccini’s Tosca, and Kholminov’s Anna Snegina. Among her other roles have been Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello, Cho-Cho-San in Puccini’s MadameButterfly, Natal’ia in Khrennikov’s Into the Storm, and Nadezhda Petrovna in Molchanov’s A Russian Woman. Bardina makes concert tours abroad.
