Minin, Fedor Alekseevich

Born circa 1709; date of death unknown. Russian arctic explorer.

Minin took part in the Second Kamchatka Expedition as a member of the northern detachments. In 1736 he joined D. L. Ovtsyn’s detachment, and in 1738 he led an expedition to explore the coast east of the Yenisei. In 1738–40 he attempted to skirt the Taimyr Peninsula from the north, reaching about 75° 15’ N lat. Minin mapped this stretch of the Arctic coast together with D. V. Sterlegov. A cape on the Mamont Peninsula, a peninsula, skerries, a bay, and a mountain on the coast of the Taimyr Peninsula were named in his honor.
