Mining Allotment

Mining Allotment

in the USSR, the part of the earth’s interior alloted to an enterprise (organization) for working the minerals it contains. Mining outside the boundaries of the allotment is prohibited. If several minerals are present in a section, a mining allotment is given for each. Mining allotments for working mineral deposits (except those generally widespread, such as sand, gravel, and other deposits of local importance) are parceled out by agencies of the State Mining Technology Supervisory Board of the USSR with regard to the findings of the geological service; allotments for generally widespread mineral deposits are made according to the procedure established by the councils of ministers of the Union republic. A mining allotment deed is the formal juridical document that allows the working of the allotment.
