(kyō`gä), lake, c.100 mi (160 km) long, formed by the Victoria Nile, S central Uganda, E Africa. It occupies part of the same depression as Lake Victoria, to which it was once joined. The shallow lake has large areas of papyrus swamp. Kyoga provides transportation for a large cotton-growing region.

(Kioga), a lake in Africa, in Uganda. Situated at an elevation of 1,029 m, it has an approximate area of 2,590 sq km and a depth of 3–5 m. The shores are extremely uneven. The lake is a relict of a vast reservoir that included Lake Victoria. Lake Kyoga is overgrown with reeds and papyrus; channels free of vegetation are maintained only for regular steamship runs. The Victoria Nile River flows through it.
