men·u

M0222400 (mĕn′yo͞o)n.1. A list of the dishes to be served or available for a meal.2. The dishes served or available at a meal.3. A list of available options, especially as displayed on a screen.
[French, small, minute, menu, from Old French menut, small, from Latin minūtus, past participle of minuere, to diminish; see mei- in Indo-European roots.]Word History: Menu can be traced back to the Latin word minūtus, meaning "small in size, amount, or degree" and also "possessing or involving minute knowledge." Latin minūtus became Old French menut and Modern French menu, "small, fine, trifling, minute." The French adjective came to be used as a noun with the senses "detail, details collectively," and "detailed list." As such, it was used in the phrase menu de repas, "list of items of a meal," which then was shortened to just menu. The French word was then borrowed into English in the 1800s.

(operating system)A list from which the user may select anoperation to be performed. This is often done with a mouseor other pointing device under a graphical user interfacebut may also be controlled from the keyboard.

Menus are very convenient for beginners because they show whatcommands are available and make experimentating with a newprogram easy, often reducing the need for user documentation.Experienced users however, often prefer keyboard commands, especially for frequently user operations, because they arefaster to use. In situations such as text entry where thekeyboard must be used anyway, having to move your hand to themouse to invoke a menu operation is slow.

There are many different ways of presenting menus but the mostcommon are the menu bar (with pull-down menus) and thecontext-sensitive menu.

The term "menu" tends to be reserved for a list of actions orglobal options, whereas a "list box" or other graphicalwidget might present any kind of choice.

Menu Icons
Increasingly, menus appear as icons that have to be clicked or tapped to view a list of options. These examples are from the Chrome Web browser on a Mac (top) and Android Galaxy Note II smartphone (bottom). Dashes and dots are common menu graphics.

Patient discussion about menu

Q. I am a person who works on schedule but lacking in my diet. Can you recommend a daily menu for me. I am a person who works on schedule but lacking in my diet. Can you recommend a daily menu for me, considering I don't eat any veggies or fruits? I know that's not good for me, but I can’t stand fruits and veggies at all! What should I eat?A. Person like you who seeks a diet on schedule is very rare to find these days. Now I don’t want to waste your time so let me come to the point. I would recommend a general "clean" diet to adhere to.I would focus on lean protein sources (chicken breast, turkey breast, egg whites) and nonwhite starchy carbs such as brown rice, whole wheat pasta and boiled red potatoes. If you can eat these starchy carbs and keep your body fat down, then enjoy them! A quick daily menu could consist of: 8am: 1 small salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing, 1 chicken breast (8 ounce), 1 cup of steamed brown rice. 11am: turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread (8 ounces of lean turkey breast, lettuce, tomato, mustard) (NO cheese or mayo). 2pm: 8 ounces of top round steak, 2 boiled red potatoes, 1 cup of non-fat cottage cheese. 5pm: egg white omelet (8 egg whites), 2 pieces of whole wheat toast (NO butter). 8pm: 8 ounces of fish, 2 cups of whole wheat pasta and 1 small salad with balsamic vinaigrette
