Ore Carrier

a cargo ship that carries bulk ore; a type of bulk-cargo vessel. An ore carrier is a single-deck vessel with the engine compartment in the stern and two lengthwise bulkheads amidships, between which are cargo holds with specific freight capacities of 0.5–1 cu m per ton. The below-deck areas between the lengthwise bulkheads and the sides and under the second bottom are used for taking on water ballast and can be adapted to transport liquid cargoes. A higher double bottom increases the strength of the vessel and increases maneuverability. Ore carrier-tankers can haul ore and petroleum by turns. An ore carrier-tanker with a deadweight of approximately 270,000 tons is 320 m long and 52 m wide, with a depth of 28 m and a draft of 21.8 m, and travels at 31.5 km/hr.
