Oriental Delights

confections that include, in addition to the usual ingredients (sugar, molasses, flour, fats, and so forth), other ingredients and spices such as starch, poppy seed, and almonds in combinations not found in ordinary confections. Oriental delights are most widespread in the Near and Middle East (hence their name). Like ordinary confections, they are produced as caramels and lozenges (grillage and kozinaki), candy (rahat loukoum, halvah, and nougats), and baked goods (baklava and saker loukoum). The baked goods have a high fat and spice content. There are about 170 kinds of Oriental delights.
