Iyvan, Kyrlia

 

(Kirill Ivanovich Ivanov). Born Mar. 4 (17), 1909; died 1943. Soviet Mari poet and film actor.

Iyvan was born in the village of Kupsola, in present-day Sernur Raion, Mari ASSR. He played the role of Mustafa in the first Soviet sound film, The Road to Life (1931). Iyvan first appeared in print in 1929. In 1931, he published (with Olyk Ipai) the verse collection We Are Shock Workers. In 1932 he published the collection The Voice of Revolution, I Sing, and in 1935, Birthday.
