Marseille Classification
Marseille Classification
A classification of pancreatitis that divides it into acute pancreatits (either a single episode or recurrent) and chronic pancreatitis. Chronic pancreatitis is characterised by irregular sclerosis with destruction and permanent loss of exocrine parenchyma; it may be focal, segmental or diffuse.Formulated in 1963 and revised in 1984, some workers believe the Marseille Classification is inadequate and outdated, in light of increased understanding of the pathophysiology and natural history of pancreatitis.
