Kyurikids
Kyurikids
(Kiwrikids), a branch of the Armenian Bagratid dynasty and their vassals that ruled from 978 to 1118 in northeastern Armenia. Founded by Gurgen (Kyurike, ruled 978–89), the Kyurikid kingdom flourished under David the Landless (989–1048) and Kyurike II (1048–89). The Akhpat and Sanain monasteries became major cultural centers of the Kyurikids. Kyurike II transferred the capital from Samyvilde to Lori (Lore) in 1064. During the invasion by the Seljuks he became their vassal. After the annexation of Lori by the Georgian kingdom in 1118, the Kyurikids established themselves in the Tavush and Matsnaberd fortresses and formally preserved the title of king up to the 13th century.
