Ognishchanin

(also tivun ognishchnyi; from ognishche, “hearth,” “courtyard”), in Russkaia Pravda, a kniazheskiimuzh, that is, a servant in charge of the prince’s household. The life of the ognishchanin was protected by a higher fine: 80 grivny (silver ingots), as compared to 40 grivny for murdering a liudin (free man). [18–852–1; updated]
