Barlyk

 

or Birliktau, a mountain range in Dzungaria, China; near the border with the USSR, east of the Dzun-garian Alatau. The Barlyk Range is 120 km long, with a maximum elevation of 2,923 m (Mount K’at’ushan). It is composed of Paleozoic volcanic sedimentary rock and of granite. Flattened peaks dissected by deep valleys predominate. The topography is mountain-steppe, with forests (including spruce and apple trees) in the valleys.
