Købke, Christen
Born May 26, 1810, in Copenhagen; died there Feb. 7, 1848. Danish painter and graphic artist.
In 1822, Købke enrolled at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. In 1828 he became a pupil of C. W. Eckersberg. K0bke’s work stylistically resembles Biedermeier art. He painted lyrical, subtlely colored portraits (The Artist’s Sister, 1831), landscapes (østerbro in the Morning Light, 1836, Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Copenhagen), and genre scenes.
