Al- Zaqaziq

a city in Egypt, in the eastern part of the Nile delta; capital of the muhafazah (governorate) of Sharqiyah. Population, 173,000 (1970). Al-Zaqaziq is a trade and transportation center and a railroad and highway junction. The city has a food-processing industry and cotton-ginning enterprises.
