Meracle v. Children’s Services Society

Meracle v. Children’s Services Society

A 1989 wrongful adoption action filed against a Wisconsin adoption agency for supplying inaccurate information that led to adoption. The agency told the adoptive family that the child’s birth family had a history of Huntington’s disease, but that the birth father had tested negative and therefore the child was not at risk. At the time there was no test for Huntington’s disease, and the disease later manifest in the child. The adoptive parents succussfully sued for damages and costs arising from the child’s development of Huntington’s.
