Barmin, Vladimir Pavlovich
Born Mar. 4 (17), 1909, in Moscow. Soviet scientist, specialist in mechanics and machine building; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966; corresponding member, 1958); Hero of Socialist Labor (1956); member of the CPSU (1944).
After graduation from the Moscow Higher Technical School in 1930, Barmin worked at the Kompressor Plant. In 1941 he became director and chief designer of the design office. Since 1931 he has been teaching at the Moscow Higher Technical School (professor there since 1960). His major works deal with questions of compressor construction, refrigeration engineering, and so on. He has received two USSR State Prizes (1943, 1967), one Lenin Prize (1957), five Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
