Moravian Karst

 

(Moravsky kras), a karst region in Czechoslovakia, in the eastern Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Elevations to 734 m. Composed of karsting Devonian limestones that are exposed in a belt 25 km long and 2–6 km wide. The plateaulike surface is broken by deep canyons. There are numerous sinkholes, troughs, funnels, dry valleys, underground rivers and streams, stalactite caves (the Sloup-Sošuv cave system and the Macocha chasm), and other karst phenomena. It is a tourist area.
