Niche, Ecological

a term used primarily in ecology to describe the position of a species in a biocenosis. A species’ ecological niche is determined by the way in which that species interacts with other members of the community and adapts to certain physicochemical conditions of the environment. Animal and plant life-forms whose modes of life are similar occupy analogous ecological niches.
