noise cancellation

noise cancellation

(1) The elimination of unwanted signals in an electronic circuit. See noise and dynamic noise reduction.

(2) The elimination of unwanted noise in the environment using noise cancelling headphones. A microphone in the headphones picks up external sound and creates an inverse signal to the speakers in order to cancel it. The headphones can also be used to listen to audio from a CD, DVD or other source at the same time. See echo cancellation.
